Awesome is correct. Got to tour one getting retrofitted in the 1980s and I to see the 40mm Bofors & 105 Howitzer sticking out the side was awesome. I was a WWII buff and commented on these weapons are still in service. If I remember, one of the people in the know confirmed they had used vintage WWII ammo in live fire practice. Nice to see the upgrades and I hope we keep them in service. My hats off to the crew, they were very proud to show off their gunship.

I started on the mortar line using WW2 marked M43A1 HE bombs...with Korea war issue fuze C17... That doesn't seem out of place to me...

I've seen the AC130's grand-dad, and daddy, the AC47 and the AC119 respectively, in action. I also had the opportunity to see a Spectre flight demonstration. As good as the earlier generations were, the AC130 is exponentially better and takes close air support into another dimension.

I don't think I would like to be on the receiving end of that.

Mate, that is what I said the first time I saw 'Spookie' do his thing one night in cold, wet night in March 1968 while I was sitting in the mud hugging a rifle.

We had AC130's help us out a few times when I was still on the pointy end of things in Afghanistan and things got sticky, they put on a quite a show to say the least, and it's always good to have friends in high places.

Does anyone know which model of C130 the AC130 on the youtube video is based? I noticed that it has external wing fuel tanks so presumably it would be a pre C130J model?
