    16-243 Garand Picture of the Day



    U.S. troops aboard a landing craft head for the beaches during Operation Torch of the North African Campaign. Operation Torch was the joint Britishicon and American planned invasion (with additional support from soldiers and sailors of Free France, the Netherlands, Canadaicon and Australiaicon) of Axis-held Frenchicon North African territories. Oran, Algeria. 8 November 1942.

    I'm thinking these are follow up troops, MPs and the little black suitcases you see there, like right lower pic at his fingertips would be typewriters. That would be clerical...

    And there are three I see. Odds are they're the same name as the 1903(A3?) or the .45s they have or the Carbines they have...Underwood, Smith-Corona, Remington-Rand...

    Any ideas on the drum of hose resting on blocks of wood at the back of the vessel? Would it be something needed on the landing craft or more likely on the beach-head/beach?
