#9 whats with the guy stalking your dad & yourself I mean you weren't dressed as turkeys were you?
Had an AD with my 12 gauge semi auto; cycling reloads by loading up, safety on, pushing the barrel down to mimic cycling. one round came out the ejection port and jammed with another on the lifter underneath I lent over with the muzzle about 4" away from my left temple pulled the jam out the bolt slammed shut and the weapon fired with No.6 shot small hole in the ceiling 6" hole in the tin roof! Never did that again 1 at a time there after a very close squeak.

#11 Vincent I have passed up oodles of shots because A) The set up was not right if I did miss with structures in the background 000's yds + away but still no good or B) The animal had too much foliage in front or covering their vitals which may deflect the bullet resulting in a ricochet or a wounded animal involving a long stalk tracking it and suffering for that animal.
Even the prey we hunt deserves dignity.

It is illegal to stalk Turkey's in PA, probably for that very reason as that is the season that the most people get shot. He evidently thought we were turkeys and was trying to sneak up on them. The trouble is both of us heard him coming and also thought it was a turkey so we were both in position to shoot when he came over the hill. Didn't have the safety's off but it was a scary situation. That was the last time I went spring turkey hunting.

It was good Aragorn that nothing happened to anyone and for him being inexperienced crashing through the bush like a bulldozer shows lack of that, it also showed your experience by not removing the safeties until the target had been properly identified. A good thing for him as he had twice the trouble facing him so had a good shock factor and teaching him that all is not what it seems to be.
Well done anyway on your emulation of a turkey attracting a turkey!!!! Glad your none the worse for wear over your experience.

In PA now you have to put a florescent yellow band on the tree @ around 5 feet high that you are hunting from in turkey season, just to avoid that issue.

Of course it is not good, but I know a few fellow who are excellent turkey callers who will, if some chap drives up in the early afternoon and noisily stakes a hunting position within earshot near a road, will play with them by responding to their calls. Some of the stories are kind of funny, though I cannot recall all the details, other than they will imitate a ****ed off male bird.

Personally if I were going to hunt turkey I would simply go outside and blast away at the large herds that came around my house in the fall, must be some grubs they like in my crappy lawn. They congregate right on my 50 yard range, so I even have a backstop.

After their first day out in the woods they stopped at a tavern for a bite to eat and as they sat there eating a table of nearby deer hunters (probably from Detroit) (In his words not mine) who were well oiled and getting loud as one asked if anyone had seen any and one guy says I took a couple of sound shots. My friends friend , his name was George, got up and approached asking where they were hunting that day. And Mr. sound Shots says off by such and such road. George looked at him and said you son of a b.... that was me you shot at and busted his nose. My friend said they weren't even within 20 miles of where the guy said he was. But on the other hand what or who did make that sound that idiot shot at?

Many years ago I had a good friend that sold deer tags. He showed me a list of people that were prohibited from being issued licenses and why not. The one I'll always remember was a guy who was busted for deer hunting for shooting at "deer sounds". The guy was really old and was legally blind! I kinda quit hunting after that. That and the numerous times I''ve had shot falling all around me.
