Anybody in Canada
know why the RCMP have banned the 10 round mags for the Ruger 10/22, I have read the legal jargon but it makes no sense?

I think it was the 25 rd mags that were banned. If it actually WAS the tens, it's because we have a 5 rd mag capacity for rifles here, except for the M1
rifles. I haven't read that yet. Wouldn't doubt it though. .22 rifles were previously left alone. Anyway, what I could understand was tens were OK but not larger than ten.

Do less than 10 round mags even exist for the 10-22?

Jonny,
Thats why I asked, does that mean you have to manually load each round into a Ruger 10/22, which is no easy feat, if a second bunny sticks its head up?

I believe Ruger does make a 5 round magazine to comply with certain US State hunting requirements. I've never seen one.
Edit: They are just a rotary mag that only holds 5.

The RCMP have deemed greater than 10 round 10/22 rifle magazines to be prohibited devices, because there are 10/22 type pistols, and pistol magazines are limited to 10 rounds. The rifle magazine will fit the pistol, therefore it is deemed to be a pistol magazine.
The 5 round rifle magazine prohibition applies only to magazines designed and manufactured for use in semi auto centerfire rifles.
This is the first time that I have ever heard that there is a question about 10 shot 10/22 rifle magazines.
Gil Boyd - what is the source of this information?

It's not 10 rounders. 10 is max for a handgun. 5 for a centre fire rifle with a few specific exceptions. The unelected civil servants just made another law by regulation concerning 25 round 10/22 mags that work in a handgun, but way back in 2013. Plus it's not all 25 rounders. And if it fits a handgun, it can be pinned to 10.
Only "22 Long Rifle calibre magazines designed or manufactured for 10/22 platform rifles are also inherently designed or manufactured for 10/22 platform handguns." were declared evil.

"...it makes no sense?..." Neither does the rest of our Firearms Act. Lots of clear and blatant violations of our Charter of Rights and the application of French
Common Law. Means your guilty until you prove your innocence.

Tiriaq,
As a RUGER lover, I received the news, some what belated from another forum member, so have you any idea what it is about? or is it simply that the Ruger long rifle mag fits the pistol and thats what they don't like............a larger capacity magazine??

Thanks guys, now I want a Ruger 10/22. I haven't bought a civilian model in years. What do you think of the takedown model?
