1941 Johnson rifle
I recently acquired one of these fine rifles and have a few questions. The bolt hold back is not working and in searching online this seems to be a common problem. Does anyone know a good source for parts? Also I am curious about a serial number search. I am unable to get onto the Johnson Rifle website so is there another source for this info? Finally are there any other problems that they have that I should be looking for?
Thanks in advance.

From what I have seen of Johnson rifles, the early models have a four digit handstamped serial number without a letter pre fix (some fakers like to remove
the letter pre fix) Parts are always difficult and fat butt stocks rare. Years ago Winfield Arms sporterized numbers of Johnson rifles some were changed to
270 Winchester. I know someone in Arizonia who has serial number R13 used in testing.

Thanks Jim, I have tried there. I get nothing in the security check box so I am unable to get in because I fail the security check. Same thing happens when I try to email mods. I will hold out hope that I can get the answers here. Thanks again.

There's some info here. The PracticallyShooting.com link doesn't work.

"...I have tried there..." Something in your browser settings/security is causing that. I can get right into that site with no fuss.
There isn't much about S/N's though. This and not much, if anything, else.

Odd! When I click that link, it takes me straight to the site with no security queries. Maybe you're having a browser issue?

I can get on the site I just can't sign up to post a question. I don't know what the problem is. Thanks for checking on it though.

cocuke: A couple of years ago I found some key parts for mine at Numrich. haven't looked lately but worth a try. There is one pretty good book on the Johnson that has a bit of info about serial numbers of rifles known to have been used by US troops. Post a couple of photos showing your rifle and its serial# and I'd be glad to have a look at the appropriate section. My own Johnson appears to have been one of the Indonesian rifles and is pretty rough!
