For those that may have missed my intro post, I'm new here but not new to mil-surp rifle collecting. I was an avid reader on the defunct Surplusrifle site, long time member of the Indiana Gun Owners board too. I have shot numerous Appleseed events over the last ~7 years, then transitioned into an instructor role for a new group of patriots called Revere's Riders.

The Revere's Riders crew has decided to put on a special event for the 75th anniversary of D-day. If you are new to mil-surp rifle collecting and just want to come shoot one before you buy one, this event is for you! This is not one of our normal classes.

Right now, I have 14 different rifles available to try. All ammo (~71 rounds) is provided in the price of the ticket. Just come out and enjoy shooting one of these classic war horses.

It is a good thing the original Surplus Rifles site went away . That was one of the largest collection of mis-information and just pure BS ever . One of the main " writers " was one of our local range idiots . Snice he shot at my range , I saw everything he did . Everything he ever wrote was made up BS . He was one of the worst shots I have ever seen , he was always a double last place shooter . Every target he posted in his "articles " was a fake . The worst reloader I ever saw , no understanding of what he was doing . Broken guns , bullets stuck in barrels , cases stuck in chambers . EVERY time he was at the range . BUT he wrote about 100 of " how to " articles on match shooting and reloading .

I shot a few of the Surplusrifle postal matches. Kinda miss those Allieds vs Axis matches. That's what got me started collecting surplus rifles from other countries.

Revere's Riders classes teaches how to correctly use a sling in 3 positions, on the clock, with a mag swap. Army "AQT" style. You'll learn how to stack 10 out of 10 shots into a 1" circle at 25 then try the same techniques at full distance (400 yds).

So you shot against the guy I am talking about . He "won " one of those matches with a M-1903 with cast bullets at 100 yards with a perfect score , but when I saw him shoot his targets it sure looked like a scoped Savage 308 at 25 yards . That is a postal match for you .

Sounds like flat out cheating to me ...

I've seen it so many times over the years, people shooting .22 prone 25yd small bore postal target competitions, shooting nine then putting the sticker on the last target to shoot the final "though the sticker" shot .....

Dirty rotten tricks ..... and too many cheats...

I am just happily in competition with myself these days, a three inch group with my No4 at 100yds and I'm happy!

That is my whole point about the info from that site . He writes about how well he and his loads shoot , tells all about how to load like him . Where as in the real world he had trouble keeping all 5 on a 12 inch target .

There won't be any target scoring going on at this event. Just a bunch of bruised shoulders.

I'm hanging mostly steel targets all the way out to 200 yards (max distance for this range). If it doesn't go "clang" you probably didn't hit it. The full sized steel IDPA will be at 200 for sure. I want people that aren't great shots to have a chance at hitting something at distance using iron battle sights. Give them an idea of what it took to be a marksman 60+ years ago.

I've got at least five 1/4 sized AQT targets, two 8" circles, a target stand holding a big paper sheet with 1" grids + the IDPA. I'm thinking we'll have 4 shooters per relay shooting at all those at the same time. Do you guys think that's enough steel or should I get more targets?

Looks like a fun way to honor the anniversary.
There’s a birthday in the family the day before or else I’d be there! Looks like it’s just about a 3 hour drive from St. Louis.

If I was in the States and within striking range, I would certainly make the trip, it sounds like it's going to be a great day.
