Would you get into trouble for loosing your bayonet unless its attached to his rifle out of shot.

It occurred to me that the guy on the left is using the tree for cover in case there is a sniper.

Bayonets were not a serial numbered accountable item like weapons, binoculars, compass etc. Charlie Painter would know if M1
carbines with
bayonets were issued in Europe before the end of the war
