My prediction just cause I know how the system works, seven years and he'll serve less than five. I hope I'm wrong!

In response to another poster. Whois to say it will come before a Judge and Jury? Who is to say it won't be plea bargained?
There is one heck of a difference! A sawed off shotgun comes under the "any other weapon" heading. An automatic weapon is an entirely DIFFERENT matter and keep in mind, the perp STOLE several, and SOLD them.

Good point. I guess my cynicism is showing.

I think your cynicism is well placed. in the land of the P.C., the same people who wish to separate us from our guns with new laws feel sorry for the criminals and want to rehabilitate them. He probably wont be charged with any statute that requires a mandatory sentence, I think that is their way to alleviate the suffering of the "misunderstood". I would like to see him get the sentence that John mentioned, but I wont be holding my breath waiting for it to happen.

A bit of history. That fella that shot up the school yard with the semi auto AK that started this whole assault weapons gar-bage had been arrest (IIRC) correctly 7 times in the previous 5 years, 4 of them with weapons charges and everyone was plea bargained down to a misdomeanor where he should have been doing a minimum of 40 years just on the federal weapons charges. Federal law says commisson of a felony with a firearm -10 years minimum sentence.

Maybe if the Feds do the actual prosecution. If tried at the State level anything is possible. I'm aware of a case where a gang member was caught with a loaded 'sterile' full-auto Uzi in his possesion (on his person) and he only served two years in Illinois.

Well it is a FEDERAL offence since the guns were legaly registered.
You sure that was a gang member in Illinois and not one of mayor Daley's aldermen? Come to think of it ,there isn't any difference.

There isn't much of a difference. Daley and almost half the City Council are former gang members as are Congresscritters Gutierrez and Rush. Blago was a former tag-a-long/wannabe gang member. Couldn't cut it as a Lane Tech student either and left after only one year
If he wasn't good enough to make it as a gang member or a student, why did people think he could make it as a politician? Oh.....I almost forgot what family he married into....and yet he still couldn't make the grade.
