Rugby and Enfields
I really enjoyed watching today's match in a bar in a little Free State town in the Afrikaner heartland. Oops to keep this on topic: is there a connection between Lee Enfields and Rugby?
Sorry, mods., should know better than to post after celebrating...

No idea on about Lee Enfields and Rugby. Used to play when I was young, but now for me a Rugby stadium or field is just wasted space that could have been better used as a shooting range
Apparently we won but I do not even know what the final score was. I was out back shooting away some no 7 shot while the game was on.

Probably most of the 680 Old Rugbeians ( ex Rugby School pupils) who died in the First World war would have been carrying a Lee Enfield.
There's your link!

Um, it's a safe bet that every Enfield equipped battalion had a Rugby, cricket and football side.
