    24 Sept 20 Garand Picture of the Day



    Marines landing on Tarawa found very little natural protection, but when they found it, they took advantage of it. Here, some of the Marines that took part in the "toughest fight in Marine Corps history" take cover behind a bank on the edge of a lagoon. Wrecked amphibious tractors line the shore.
