63 Match M1 Garand Ammo Lake City. Safe?

Was just given a box of 1963 Lake City Caliber .30 Match M72 Ammo by old friend wanting me to test in my HRA Garand Special. It says 173 grain bullet at 2640 FPS. Is it safe for Garands generally?
Otherwise, I also have a Garand gear gas plug installed.

Same specifications as the M1 30-06 round, just made to tighter tolerances. The M1 Garand was designed with the M1 round as its main fodder. With the plug you have suspenders and a belt. Not sure if it has any collector value, they made an awful lot of it. Shoot away with confidence.

Panic is infectious!
Having said that, my Garand has a Garand Gear gas plug, now my empties drop next to the rifle about 2 ft away instead of going halfway towards the target. OK not quite that far, but quite a distance.
Before that I shot over 1000 rds of regular Prvi Partizan which is a bit hot, but I had no dramas other than a long search for the empties.

bit like my friends K-31 when cycled fast in say a speed shoot the brass normally lands 10 - 15 feet behind him after describing a great parabolic arc getting there.

M72 is Lake City Match ammo that the service rifle teams used when the Garand was commonly shot in service rifle competition. It is perfectly safe to shoot in a M1 Garand and if my memory serves me right, 1963 would have been in the heyday of the Garand in service rifle competition and Lake City Match ammo from that vintage should be very good and very accurate ammo.

Have shot the Lake City 1963 match M72 ammo in both my sporterized 1903A3 and a Sako 75 Hunter also in 30-06. Proved to be very accurate in both. Frank

I have heard the suggestion to lightly seat the bullet a thousandth or two deeper to break the waterproofing seal on the neck due to age as insurance against high pressures. I have no personal knowledge if that is even useful or needed, hopefully an advanced loader can chime in. I have shot a little M72 years ago when it was 20 years old - shot great. CC
