Significance of yellow paint on parts?

On occasion I have seen L1A1 parts (magazines and a couple of barrels come to mind) with a daub of yellow paint on one edge, like it was purposely applied with a brush.

Did that yellow paint mark have any meaning in service? One of the barrels in question (part of a complete barrel assembly from a chopped rifle) also had a paper hang tag attached to it reading "defective", with no further information.

DP marked pressure baring parts being recirculated back into new builds, what could possibly go wrong!

Well, we see these posts regularly, just had one asking if these were safe to shoot. Once they've been stripped completely, who's to know? Once you read the directive for their manufacture from sub standard parts including wood, you no longer have any doubts.

Well, that begs the question, What is the classification "UR"?

Never heard of UR. Unir repairs were always an X repair. On the other hand UF was either part of the serial number - as in L2A3 sub machine guns or Unfit to Fire - as in condemned!

Under Australian EMEI Standards

'R' REPAIR ... either Field or Base (depending on what the item is)
'RR' = Repair Rebuild (items that are repairable but beyond the OTRL (one Time Repair Limits))
'UR' = UnRepairable
