I have about three of the new ones but you don't see the old ones at all. They would have gone out as soon as the slotted flash hider replaced the prong flash hider, the eyes at top would have then been useless...except for retro builds.
I believe these early tools are not common to find. They will not fit the first type prong flash hider only the second type. I seem to recall there was a different tool for the type one prong flash hider - anyone recall ?
I had an early tool, as I was building ARs back in the late 80s. Lent it to a friend, and never got it back. I still have the next generation one, which is identical, though without the three prong slots.
BTW Innovative Industries sells these early 3 prong wrenches. They make exact copies of the 601 duck bill flash hiders that are so good, They have a small "II" stamp under the rear face that is covered by the lock washer. They also make an exact copy of the later three prong. I now have one on my XM16E1
This photos has been around and posted for some time - I would guess taken early 1965 or
late 1964 ? any guess ?
I use to buy those waffle magazines at gun shows for $20 each, then there were all gone !
not many around since the military told you to throw them away, the Edgewater buffer lasted a little longer. The duckbill (original) was very difficult to find
