I can believe it. On one occasion I saw the results of a 'dispute' between two drug sellers and their supplier. One was hit in the leg, the other in the arm. Both rounds struck bone, pulverizing it. One's now called "Gimpy" the other "Stumpy".

They don't bounce off of windshields like the .223 is known to at road blocks... 30 carbine penetrates car bodys rather well by comparrison too. Here's a live link to the above posted article.

The M1
carbine has a less than satisfactory knock-down rating from the GIs who used them on the Chinese in Korea. The M1 Garand was the weapon of choice over the carbine.

I don't think I'd touch this with a 10 foot piece of frozen goat rope

O.K. I'll open the can of worms! From what I understand the coats the chinese wore were thick and of a tight weave that made them somewhat bullet proof at longer distances. I bet .45's bounced off. .02

Who doesn't want a bigger gun when it's on? Funny tho we never hear how under powered a 9mm SMG was..German
MP40.. The Carbine has more than double the power of the 9mm.. The Soviets used the 7.62x25 in their SMGs.. 74gr bullet@1600fps.. Killed Germans well enough in the Russian
winter..

Well, to start with we better stipulate that most GIs are Bullsh*t Artists and in no way weapons experts especially in "knockdown rating" (whatever that is)and ballistics.
This argument is like comparing a BB gun to a .22 rifle and then claiming an epiphany.
They are two different firearms;designed and built for two different purposes. That one firearm is somewhat less than another in its designed performance does not mean it is a failure;indeed it only means that it suffered a bad comparison.
