Lee Enfield No.4 MkI
Does anybody know of any good scope mounts for this gun? Don't give me any sh*t for putting a scope on it either. It's already been sporterized quite a bit by Santa Fe/Golden State Arms.
I know there are scope mounts which use the safety and ejection screw holes for fixing, any of these?

Hi Gdun,
I would never dare give you sh*t for anything... But, has the barrel been shortened during the sporterization (by the... ahem, skilled folks at GSA or Santa Fe..)?
If the metal is intact (i.e. receiver not drilled and tapped, and barrel original length), then my advice would be to keep the metal intact - the rifle will retain a higher resale value (because it can be "de-sporterized"). In which case, S&K makes a good "no gunsmith" mount that actually holds its zero. (you need to remove the rear sight to install it).
On the other hand, I have a sporterized No4 that has been permanently sporterized before it got to me
so I got it to my gunsmith and he found a scope mount that could be screwed onto the receiver; looks pretty standard stuff to me (but have no idea what brand or model).

I tried the (German
) Cadtech side mount and (like many others) eventually gave up on it as it did not enable the scope to be detached without having to re-sight it. The soft metal worked loose.
I now use an Armalon top mount that wedges onto the receiver (other makes use the same method) and it´s much better.

Don´t know where you are. But, if in Europe (including the UK
). t´is Armalon: Armalon - Homepage or Fultons: http://www.fultonsofbisley.com/ who both make similar mounts. Think Brownells also stock them.

Here's S&K's site I found when I googled "S&K scope mount":

Since 2 years i use the S&K mounts on one of my LE`s. They are good to mount( no welding and drilling ) and they are holding the zero. Good stuff and cheap too.

Interesting information, but what would be a reasonable "starter" scope to go with a S&K mount. Please assume I am a total newbie, as I am :P

spinecracker, A 4X Weaver or Redfield would be my choice. There are starter (inexpensive) 3X9 variables available. These should be sighted in using the middle power (6X) as POI can change with the different magnification settings. (Is this called deflection?)
