D Day Pictures
This was passed on from a friend.
Well worth looking at when you have the time...
Seems a shame that it was Obama that led the ceremonies...

painter...
Great pictures. Thanks for sharing. Noticed in one picture jumper carried both an M1
Carbine and a .45 cal.

The photo entitled "A US veteran wears his medals during a commemoration ceremony on June 5, 2009 at the German
Military Cemetery of La Cambe, Normandy" shows a series of Soviet
Victory Anniversary medals being worn on the right breast. Highly unlikely.

Thanks, Painter!
#18 & #30 form a sequence (#30 first) and a narrative of the actions of a group who made it to shore using a rubber raft after their landing craft sank.

#30

#18
I've seen #18 many, many times but had never seen the companion#30. The story behind the picture was unclear until I was able to see the sequence. I always wondered about the balding guy being helped on 18, what was wrong with him? He looked a little older than your average D-Day trooper. Now I know - he had gotten to shore wearing his life belt and holding on to the raft and then had to drag in the raft and, possibly due to being a little older, was exhausted. The guy on the far side rear of the raft in #30, behind the balding guy, is at the right in the second picture (#18). Possibly the near side rear guy from the raft in #30 is helping the balding guy up in #18 (our left), as well as another guy in a dry uniform (our right). Notice that no-one in a dry uniform has a life belt. It helps you figure out who made dry landings and who struggled to shore on the raft.

Hi Bob,
seems that you are the only worthy successor of Sherlock Holmes and Rockford. Good combination.

Great pics all and a tribute to all the brave men who fought and died there. The only problem I have is that in a lot of the captions the GREAT PRETENDER is mentioned. I feel it is an insult to all brave soldiers and sailors and airmen when the likes of Osamabama and Clintonista are even mentioned in the same sentence.

TDH,
I couldn't agree more about our past heroes being treaded on.

The captions were written to reflect this year's activities commemorating 65th anniversary of Operation Overlord, which happened to include the attendance of the President of the United States
, which it should. Why don't we spend our time on this thread honoring those who gave their lives and fought for freedom instead of insulting our Commander in Chief who you happen to hate?

Because the greatest insult is that this...PERSON*... is representing our countrymen who gave their lives to protect our country, when he does not believe in our country (Is Michelle still ashamed of US?), or the values that they died to protect.
* - "PERSON" was the best word I could come up with that wouldn't get my post deleted by an administrator... What I really think of him, his family, and their stooges would not be printable...
