I seem to remember that they had filled the block of flats with CS Gas.
And i presume he didn't want to be crying as the building was 'off gassing' and had to take a shot at the same time.... Just a thought
Would not have been easy to do with the gas mask on!

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Either that scope has plenty of eye relief or the shooter has a rather reduced field of view! (WWII USMC snipers using 8x Unertl equipped '03's generally left the scope forward of the bolt handle (for speed) and shot with much of their field of view gone!) He also seems to have his head rather rolled over, but if it works, it works. Just not something you'd want to discover and have to deal with for the first time on an actual deployment!

ETA Feller's got no elbow pads or other useful gear for a long standoff, looks like he was called up while off duty!

I always figured the Enfield's low comb would come in handy when Gasmasks were necessary. Also when winter gear with hats with cheek flaps or helmets with chin straps in place (before they discovered chinstraps broke necks that is).
The cheek piece of the Sniper Rifles eliminate that useful feature though. A good reason to have fully adjustable, or quick detachable, cheek piece for the purpose.

I assume that the embassy did not move after the siege and is still in the same place to this day? If so, I think I worked out using Google Earth which building the marksman was on, just north west of the junction of Moncorvo Close and Ennismore Gardens, with a 160 yard shot. Yes, I was bored.
