Saw none in my quick look-over. Description was otherise accurate I thought. See someone on gunnutz is questioning the stock.

The "no7" was just a remarked No4.

The sniper was a junker, and the scope was buggered (to what extent, I wasn't sure). The box was a staight No7 box.

A fellow I know said that he had appraised the gun in the past, and it had had a scope can, different scope and other parts removed (he said the butt stock, but I suspect just the cheek piece).

The gun looked original, but many of the sniping inspector markings were faint or missing. I think the gun was refinished at some point and the markings removed.

On the bright side, the forend was numbered in the original manner.

As far as I could tell the rear sight (tho properly marked) appeared to be a replacement.


The South African "prototype" had South African property markings, and London commercial proofs.

A dealer I know said that he had bought it 20+ years ago for $1800, but some of the "experts" he quoted for provinance I think are somewhat shaky.

The only "envoy" part remaining was the receiver.

It had a very interesting adjustable stock, and both of the 7.62 match rifles seemed to have adjustable/custom triggers.

Why on earth did it go that cheap? The scope and bracket alone are worth over $2000. Was the rifle that bad?
Mismatched bolt is unfortunate but just the scope...not to mention the No 15 chest...someone got a deal.

Hey there Cantom,, Nope, the scope was in excellant condition. A few scratches etc, but that made it look used...kills? Anyway the optics were clear and nice no marks on the lense, and tres nice recticle.

Sad that these auction people just barge in and grab someones stuff, and don't seem to get all the parts to go with the item. I'm sure the owners will find parts left over in the basement...

Yup, it was an RC. The safety was EP'd, everything else was stamped. Floorplate and bands were stamped. Stock was a late 45 with bolt takedown in the buttplate. It is an RC - mind you, a very nice RC with the stock stripped and re-oiled.

Bud Haynes did not lie, all the catalogue states is that it appears unissued and all matching. He never said original - as left factory - WWII.

I was there and felt REALLY sorry for the kid who bought it. It looked like he was just getting into milsurps. I wanted to scream out "ITS A $400 RC!!!!" But didn't. I didn't have the heart to tell the kid when I saw him outside later.

Another sad point at that auction... the 1905 Ross, is an original MkII* with the proper liange type rear sight, and I didn't get it.

Sounds more like an East German refurb than an RC - either way, it's still only a $400 Mauser.

It was a real nice East German Re-arsenal. The appears unissued part could be true. In that it was re-arsenalled and never issued. The bore was MINT. But it still was not a $1200 rifle.
