First off, let me say this is a great forum. I've been browsing for a while and finally registered today. I'm falling in love with the M1s
I'm pretty excited as I just bought a Carbine from my best friend growing up. He bought this when we were at a gun show just about 30 years ago. It was fired once and then stored away. Not much interest in guns anymore, he decided to sell it to me.
It is a Saginaw SG, markings as follows:
Ser # 361****
Barrel is marked Exel Gardener Mass. ....?
Sight marked LR.CO.
The mag release appears to have a lg. M and a couple small marks on it.
I'm curious about the wood. It is in great shape but not so much that it looks aftermarket. It's the oil type finish I commonly see on these Carbines but I can't find any markings on it when installed on gun. Taking the stock off, there is S A stamped near the top of the for-arm as well as the upper forarm piece, it also has the S A marks. Taking the butt plate off, I did notice 3 holes, including the screw hole.
The bore is not pitted.
The gun appears to be in great shape and judging from what I see going on at CMP, I think I got a great deal.
Any comments appreciated!
I'm curious about the stock and barrel and what the manufacture date may have been with that serial number.
Thanks,TInformation
