U.S. M1Carbines. -------Post WWII used by the West Germans.
The carbines the Germans received from the Americans 1945-1947 tended to be used U.S. carbines of the earlier WWII configuration.
Many were not reworked and remain in their original configuration.
M1 carbines were given to the American occupational zone states of Bavaria, Hesse, Württemberg, and the city of Berlin, direct from Americans.1945-1949.
There were sometimes very particular markings placed on these M1 carbines by the Germans after the war;…this is a specific collecting venue all by its self.
It is a fascinating story!
The man that knows all about this stuff is Jim Mock,…he has a very interesting web site;

This Inland carbine after doing it's duty during WWII became a Bavaria Rural Police arm.
The carbine- Sn. 4882099 barrel dated 12-43 ;
Some of the specific Bavaria markings;
The bolt...with a four digit serial number marking.
The trigger housing.
The slide;
The stock markings;
Post war Germanmanufactured .30 M1 cartridges.
This carbine shown above had the agency markings removed on the left receiver rail and replaced with a black covering substance.
It might have once had the "Bavaria Rural Police" marking shown on the Bavaria marked carbine below.
Inland barrel dated 7-43.
Serial number 769723.
This carbine is a mixmaster.
Slingwell and handguard markings "0567"....which is neither the Wuerttemberg inventory number nor the receiver serial number.
One of the mysteries of these guns?
The markings on the trigger guard are from the Wuerttemberg Landes Polizei. Wuerttemberg's version of Bavaria's Rural Police. This marking dates the carbine as given to the Germans of Wuerttemberg between the end of the war and prior to 1952, likely prior to 1948 and one of the first carbines given to the Germans. The Wuerttemberg inventory number 2265.
This carbine was given to Bavaria by Wuerttemberg and the Bavaria Rural Police markings were probably added then.
This carbine has both Wuerttemberg and Bavarian markings.
A comment from Jim Mock ...the "Guru" of the Bavaria carbines.
"The stamped numbers on the bolt, has only been seen on Bavaria Rural Police carbines.
The Rural Police were the only Bavaria, and German, agency to consistently put the last 4 (or 3) digits of the serial number on the slide, stock slingwell, under the handguard, back of the trigger housing and on the bolt."
