Frank, I am usually a pro-shooter. But the value of that particular IP lays in it being a preserved white bag. Cleaning it up from its 1966 condition (45 years) will greatly deminish its collector value as a white bag. Besides, the packing and long-term preserving is part of its history. You would be destroying that. That was a period of "duck and cover", Vietnam, fears over the Red Hoard wiping us all out. That weapon was put in mothballs as a "just in case".
It goes against my "but does it shoot?" mentality, but I think you should leave it preserved and not fire it.
