Had an hour to kill before my ship come in so went to a local book store, the store has new and used books and a big selection on military and history, I wasn’t looking for anything special just a browse, it was only when i found this next to the Crimea section.

Bombardment of Ladysmith Anticipated ( The Diary of a siege ) by Alan Chalmers

An interesting book based around the Diary of Pte George C Maidment RAMC, during the siege of Ladysmith in the Boer war.

A well illustrated book, which includes information from other sources along with Pte Maidments diary to give an overall day to day insight of the siege. Lots of prints of then and now and includes a separate map of some battles.

A must for anyone with an interest in the Boer war, not just a good read but an excellent reference book at the same time.
