    mpd1978,

A Quality H.M.C. carbine I just purchased has the original RSG stock that could be a twin to yours. It's serial number is 4,849,4xx. The cartouche appears to be in the exact same spot, as does the RSG in slingwell. Also, that extra mark yours has to the left of the RSG is identical to mine...even to the point that you can't quite make out what it is.

Carbine club newsletter #334 mentions the majority of the latest Quality Hardwares that came with factory low wood stocks(and there weren't large numbers of low woods), were marked Q-RMC. These were supplemented by a limited number of stocks marked HQ and RSG.

I'm thinking that extra mark ours has is a lightly struck sideways Q, bottom half missing? Just a guess. The newsletter doesn't even mention it. Congrats on your nice QHMC!
