Different 1917 safety question

My 1917 works fine in every way, except: If I put the safety on with the bolt open, it will fire when the safety of pushed off after the bolt is closed. When a cartridge is chambered with the safety off then the safety works normally. Anybody ever tried this with theirs? Would somebody try it and tell me what happens? thanks
