I just picked up a Smith Corona 03A3 and, as I'm new to these, I have some questions. The rifle is SN 3662894 and is in excellent condition. The SC barrel is dated 4-43. It has what appear to be rack numbers stamped in the butt stock and some indications of light wear to the sling swivels.The butt plate also has some signs it sat in some moisture that etched the finish . The stock appears to be correct and proofed with the 1/2" circle P, FJA and ordinance wheel with no rebuild marks I can see. However, it has a blued Remington bolt in it. This bolt matches the rifle finish. It has a punch mark on the bolt root. The books I'm reading say this is not the correct bolt and that it should be marked with a X or completely unmarked. Is this an absolute or could the rifle's current bolt possibly be correct? Did Remington supply Smith Corona with any bolts? I don't want to replace the current bolt in some misguided attempt to make it more "correct" if it's right already.
I appreciate any help or info anyone can provide.
