What an interesting article.

I was especially intrigued by Garand's insight into the importance for cooling by having hand guards that are slightly loose. Ha, I've seen several threads where guys were trying to tighten up their wobbly hand guards, thinking it was years of use. And some of it may be - but this shed a bit of light on it. My own handguards on my Garands are a bit 'loose' feeling, but I think John would approve!
