I am reading a book written by an Alaskan Scout in WW11. He states that for personal weapons they carried the 03 Springfield or personal 3006 hunting rifles. he also mentioned that they carried colt woodsman 22s and hunting knives. I was astounded why carry 22s in combat. He also stated that they had access any weapons and equipment civilian or GI that they wanted (nelson pack boards, mukluks, waterproofed civilian hunting clothes). So why would they want colt 22s woodsman pistols
