Ok, first look from photoshop is in.
The SKS seems to fit within the required footprint.
But.
Major issues I can see off the bat.
1. Barrel is WAAAY too light in profile. Putting a cone on the end for a flash-hider would be a start, but a new barrel would almost be more worthwhile.
2. New breech-block carrier would have to be built, probably similar to that of the original bren.
3. It would be impossible to change the SKS Bolt to have straight down ejection, either the ejection port would have to move, or a new bolt would have to be built.
So, I think I'm basically done with the idea right there.
The need to re-barrel in order to get a proper barrel profile, plus building a new breech-block, plus a new breech-block carrier, means that I'm pretty much into building a new rifle from scratch.
If I'm going to do that, why would I build one around an SKS action, instead of just building a new SA only Bren????
So, I guess Stevo, you've helped me answer my question, and given me a reality check before I went and dumped a bunch-o-money on a hair-brained scheme.
Many thanks,
NavyShooter
(Anyone got some pics of a Lewis next to an SKS???? LOL)
