hi:
i've got a no.4 mk.1* longbranch bubba here (1943).
the top of the chamber is stamped with a "star" and a superimposed RR (rolls royce?)the end of the barrel near the muzzle also has the "RR".the barrel is dated 1955.the barrel has a 5 (or so) twist and is sharp but looks pitted and rusted(dark and gritty)also, about 2 inches of the barrel near the muzzle has NO RIFLING!
i'm wondering if the barrel was rewelded or maybe counterbored and who made this barrel.i don't see obvious welding but it might be under the front sight.the only rub is the RR near the crown is after the bored out/missing rifling.the bayonet lugs are there.
any of you guru's have an idea as to wassup...
