Hi All,
I am consolidating this post to make it more readable and not disjointed as it is on the CMPforums....
As a sidenote I have read over the past few days both book by Scott Duff on the M1Garand..good stuff...
I have come across an M1 that I believe I am going to purchase...went over the rifle and I compared it to a data sheet in the Duff book....
(this is all from memory BTW)
All seems correct although:
the barrel is labeled SA-4-52
The rear sight does not have a lock bar it is a flat type flush nut...or kinda like you would see on a Post WWII M1, i have to look at it again...could it be a 'model 47'..I gotta get some pics...
The other parts appear to have the correct drawings numbers etc..the stock also has a faint SA EMcF stamp and small crossed cannons as well a P on the heel....
What do you think the story might be with this? WWII receiver re-barreled for Korea??
Also I can't seem to find the answer to this.
In Duff's Post WWII Garands...in there it states many m1's came back from the war to SA and were refurbished and were either stored, or, more likely went to Korea.
Does anyone know what the refurb/upgrade process was i.e. work they did on average?
Also would there be any markings added to the rifle indicating a refurb at SA??
I have a hunch the one I am looking at ' might ' fit this bill. Thoughts? Ideas etc....?
Thanks
