    Yard Sale Carrying Case Purchase

I found this at a yard sale on Saturday and didn't know for sure what it was at the time. I figured it was probably for the M1icon Carbine but not sure. I have learned that it is for the M1 Carbine but don't know if it is a real one or a reproduction. It's in good shape other than the penmanship which I assume is a previous "owners" initials and last name. I can't explain the tiger striping in the photos. It may be my computer screen or the camera. If you don't see it, it's my computer screen.

    Length is 41 1/2 inches.

I unfortunately don't have an M1 to put in it and don't foresee one in my near future.

Any thoughts? Is it real, should I leave the name alone or try to remove it. If removing, how? Was $10 a good deal?
