M14 Upper Butt Plate Screws - Which one to use

I constantly get new guys wanting the wrong screws for their stocks. This should help them understand which are used on which stocks.

The butt swivels and screws are the same on all the stocks described in this posting. The pictures show the swivel and lower screw as seen from above.

The Garand and the early M14icon version using Garand butt plates (also the T44E4, often incorrectly referred to as T44) used the small upper wood screw.

The standard M14 wood stock used a longer upper wood screw. It was an improvement.

The standard fiberglass stock used a machine screw, nut, and a retainer, which holds all them in place. The stock has a slot for the retainer.

Do not use this information for the M14A1 (E2) and the early versions of the fiberglass stocks. There are differences.
