I recently inherited a remington 03A3 from my grandfather. The date stamped on the barrel is 6-43. In researching these rifles I have noticed the safety on most of them switched back and forth across the rear of the bolt. My safety is on the right side of the bolt and only flips up 45 degrees [See photo].

Why is mine different? Did my grandfather change the safety or was it built like this? If it was built like this, why can't I find any other 03A3 with a similar safety?
