Diopters were fitted to the CG63, the competition rifle, but Swedishicon service M96s were not fitted with diopter sights sights. However, rifles lent out to the volunteer shooting clubs were sometimes fitted with diopters. In the best book I know on the Swedish Mauser "Crown Jewels", by Dana Jones, the author takes the trouble to provide a photo of the Army Technical Order that permits diopters approved by the FSR (Frivilliga Skytterörelsen) - i.e. Volunteer Shooters Association - to be fitted "provided that the work was done by a military armourer or FSR-certified gunsmith". BUT the rifle had to be put back into the original condition when it was returned to the armed services. So quite clearly service rifles were not supposed to have diopter sights, the CG63 being available for target shooting.

All this means that an M96 (or M38) with diopter sights will not be acceptable for service rifle competitions. It would be rated as a civilian target rifle.

I suggest you look up the NRA website. Somewhere buried in there you should find the classifications for all the Trafalgar competition events, for example.
