"Yuma, Arizona, Two soldier testmen of the Quartermaster Test Team model the new experimental and the standard issue desert clothing worn during five weeks of experimental tests in the Imperial Desert of Southeastern California, near Yuma. Cpl. Laurence Kwiecinski of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (left), is one of three squads of testmen wearing the experimental uniform. Physiological checks were made and compared with results produced by a fourth squad wearing the standard issue as worn by Pvt. Thomas Yates of Bardwell, Kentucky (right). Outstanding features in the new garb are the cloth peaked cap and utility head cloth which afforded ample insulation to the head while protecting the desert trooper from the sun, wind and sand storms."
