Most of my Garands have been rebuilt with barrels from the early 50s. I do have one 412 thousand Springfield Armory receiver that has a barrel dated 8-41, if I am reading it right. The barrel is marked:
S-A 8-41 C U
It also has a P stamped on the barrel in front of the step-down and I can see a couple of "punch marks" on each side of the step-down that I presume had something to do with hardness testing.
Could this barrel have originally belonged to this receiver? I just can't help but be curious.
