    The Butt could be a simple replacement, replaced after the rifle was surplussed.

    I have 200+ butts in stock for No4s and when I get a No4 with a Bantam or Short Butt it normally gets replaced with a Normal Length Butt and the new owner gets to keep the original butt as well, unless he is small framed and wants a Short butt.
