I bought a large safe from a friend but because it was a business/office safe it had shelves rather than racking for firearms. I removed the shelves and half-a**ed built a rack for my long guns but was not happy with the configuration (see first photo). While cruising the net one day I ran across www.7.62x54net which is a website for Mosin Nagant collectors & shooters. If you're interested in anything that has to do with Mosin Nagants this is a good place to go but what caught my eye was the firearms racks. Among the available plans & offerings was a section called "Custom Safe Interiors" which looked to be an answer to my problem. The example had the same dimensions as the interior of my safe. I ordered a rack with 27 holes (3 rows of 9) rather than the example with 33 holes so as to give my long guns a little more room. The rack came quickly via Fed Ex and is a quality hardwood plywood and sanded smooth (see second photo). A slight improvement would be to router the edges so they aren't sharp but I could do that later. After placing the rack on top of my half-a**ed framing my long guns are neat & tidy and I can remove a rear gun by removing the front gun and not banging the others (see third photo). If you're handy you could make your own but you can e-mail Ted and buy one from him for +/- $50 plus shipping ( http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinRacks.htm )
