Hi everyone. FNG here. Retired USMC. Hoping to learn a bit about my various rifles and guns I have hear for hunting. I have just inherited a U.S. Springfield armory model 1903 with serial numbers I374377. onthe side of the safety above trigger in stock is S.A. then under that is stamped GAW. to the right of that is a circle symbol with what looks to be crossed cannons? flip up rear adjust sight w/slide. A P stamped in stock behind trigger guard. No serial number on metal plate butt stock. wear the bayonett clips on under side has the letter H, the barrel stamped R29 , No other markings or numbers that I can see. Can anyone tell me the roots of my gun ? I'm trying to totally clean this gun up. it was sitting in a barn for 30 years. Trying to figure out how to best polish up the metal? It was all layered with crud and dirt and dust. Corrosin starting. Tips best way to restore metal on this weapon. Thankyou.
