Since I was a kid I've always wanted a real WWII era P.38 and I recently realized that my 1977 Walther P1 retired Germanpolice gun just wasn't cutting it for me. So I won an auction for the P.38 pictured and to my surprise and delight, it arrived in the pictured holster, which had not been mentioned, no doubt because it didn't appear "correct". But I think it is the original holster, modified by its owner during the war! You can also almost make out the capturing unit (and maybe person?) information lightly etched into the leather. A unit in the 3rd Infantry Division, perhaps? I can make out 358 and APO 3 but that's about it. Neat piece of history that is trying hard to tell its story.
