That is Sons point, there is no rifle marked No1 MkI. Its ShtLe1.

But most "NO. 1 Mk III or III*"s also are not marked "No. 1". As I understand it, post '26 that simply became their official designation. So what would you officially call my 1915 SMLE MkI**IP if in service past '26 (which it probably was)? No. 1 MkI**IP?
