I like the 91 Mauser. I just mounted a new barrel on a brand new receiver, after cutting the barrel to 18" overall. Put a Williams peep sight on the rear bridge and a dayglow front sight. Glassbedded the whole thing. Drilled lightening holes in the buttstock, narrowed the sporter stock as much as possible, installed a clip button release, and mounted another 91 Timney trigger. I drawfiled the step out of the barrel. She looks good and puts five rounds in 1 1/2" at 100 yards with me shooting. The 7.65 is pert near identical to the 308. She is a great thick brush rifle. I call her "Master Blaster" due to the incredible muzzle blast and stout kick due to light weight (less than 6 lbs loaded). I have a bunch of extra clips I carry with me in my pants pocket. Great swamp rifle because when I hold it down beside my leg, the muzzle is over 6" off the ground.
No, I need another 91 like I need another wife. I converted one to 300 Savage also. That one is deadly accurate and doesn't kick as much.
