I'm curious about this, since I came across a series 1 Type 99 (serial 98xxx, so a late one). I was originally going to take the gun apart to clean it up and inspect it, and probably part it out as the finish is pretty tired, and the monopod, dust cover, and AA wings my reference says it should have are long gone along with the matching bolt even though the bayonet lug/front band match the receiver.
However, on inspecting it I noticed most of the screws that hold it together are staked, the only major exception being the the left side band screw. However some of the stake marks don't seem to line up perfectly and one of the screw heads has some wear. Some of the stake marks look obviously untouched, but I'm wondering about some of the others
Any thoughts on this? The front band looked like someone has tried to take it apart but the screws don't move either way. It's just the way the marks don't quite line up with the slot on the head that have me wondering. If it's original I'll leave it alone.Information
