Just throwing out this question to members of this board, who seem to be the most knowledgeable group on the internet.

Does anybody have any information on the first pattern Metford trials carbine?

Built in 1889 on the Magazine Rifle Mk.I body, it had an eight round single stack mag.

Fifty were built, none known to survive.

No pictures or drawings. Nobody knows as to what they looked like.

My research has found that there might even have been two versions, one with volley sights one without. The two variations might be an artillery version and a cavalry version.

Both used the two piece Metford nose cap and barrel band, which would suggest to me that a heavy barrel similar to that of the NZicon carbine was used.

This is where a picture would be worth more than a thousand words.
