Hey all,

I lay no claim to being an expert, so perhaps it's not surprising then that this particular Mk1 has me a bit flummoxed. It's been through an FTR but there are a few markings on it I don't quite understand.

First here's a photo of the left hand side.

The Serial tells me it's a Maltby? There's an arrow, but what appears to be two J7 markings?
Attachment 87389
Here, it says it's been FTR'd at Fazakerley, but no date when this took place.
If you look closely, under the No4 Mk1 engraving it looks like a No4 Mk1* was there before?
Towards the left of the image are a few markings I don't recognize either.
Attachment 87391
I haven't taken the rifle apart, so I'm not sure if the trigger is mounted on the guard or to the action itself, but would a FTR'd rifle not upgrade a Mk1 to a Mk1/2?
On the muzzle it says CE1967, so it's possible that gives a date to the FTR. BNP appears as well which I believe means it was nitro proofed.

Thanks again in advance for checking out the photos and attachments and letting me hear your thoughts. It is much appreciated!

As a general question, I've seen some rifles with a ton of markings etched into them, and some with almost none, or barely legible. Is this discrepancy normal or do lack of certain markings raise flags? When a rifle is FTR'd, are previous engravings gone? If they replace all the parts, wouldn't there be a standard set of new ones on it?
