Good afternoon and Happy New Year to all fellow Milsurpers! This is not really gun related, aside from the name of the inventor, but it does relate to what I do for a living to purchase my guns....I have had this for a few years now--it was in a large batch of antique medical instruments my father acquired when he moved offices. The space he moved into had been rented by a physician whose father had been a doctor in SK in about 1905.
These probably aren't worth a lot and are likely much more plentiful on the other side of the "pond" but still interesting. Maxim invented this, considered the first combination inhaler, for his own bronchial issues and then marketed it, and it did seem to work. This set is quite complete and includes a booklet on different lung conditions. Probably the biggest issue in London at the turn of the 20th Century would have been its famous pea soup fog, which was really a combination of fog, coal smoke, oil smoke, dust and general pollution--what we would consider now to be "smog" but with a lot more coal smoke mixed in. I am attaching a link to an article about the inhalers as well. What is particularly interesting is how much flak he took for dabbling in things to help people......
