LTC Batte M1A1 Sold for Over $20,000 in 2008

    Details?
Anyone familiar with the M1A1icon owned by LTC Batte (later General) that reportedly sold for over $20,000 in 2008?

I ran across a old thread today on a forum where it was brought up. Not much detail other than what I can copy from the thread here:

"The General Batte (LTC at the time) M1A1 went for over $20K in 2008. That M1A1 had excellent provenance and documentation. It had a few parts that were replaced (presumed field changed), and showed consider wear. The finish and stock were heavily worn and the furniture had several dings, dents and scratches. I’ve only seen a handful with that level of provenance."

    Edit to add:
    Found a little more info:
The Batte M1A1 carbine (with original case) which sold for north of 20K USD in 2008.
At the time LTC Batte was commanding the 87th Chemical Mortar BN and he picked up the M1A1 from a deceased gliderborne troop on D-Day and carried it till the end of the war (and obviously took it with him). He liked the way it stowed in his jeep.

    Obviously curious..
