So given this long enforced period of stay at home time I am thinking of servicing my rather extensive collection of decrepit No.2 binoculars. However I have run into the first of probably many issues... a pity PL is not around.

In my copy of Notes on Repairs to Fire Control Instruments Part 41 General Notes on service telescopes periscopes & binoculars 1939 it give instructions for preparation of Sealing or Luting Material for Joints and Screws which are:
Melt in order-
1 part Canadaicon Balsam
8 parts beaswax, and
4 parts mineral jelly, red or yellow

else where I also have an apparent requirement for Mineral Jelly Red,

What is Mineral Jelly Red, and would any one know where in the UKicon it can be purchased? alternatively is there a substitute?

For instance I understand Vaseline can be used as an inferior substitute for for Mineral Jelly Yellow, but not Red...

Any help welcome!
