Here too, things have started to open up.
The "sheriffs", or private people who spy on others, are outraged because lots of people, while still keeping distance, have started living almost normally again. Face covers are to be worn, at least here in Friuli, only if you stay close to people, otherwise you can do without.
Saturday, we had a nice BBQ with our neighbours, who we have been seeing since the situation cleared, and Sunday, other neighbours visited us for an aperitivo. And that was quite interesting, because they are both doctors. She is paediatrician, while he is pulmonologist, and has been involved big time in the mess.
They came with their three kids, without masks and absolutely easy.
I asked how it was, and he told me that, after the first shock, due to the ignorance about the type and severity of the illness, they figured out pretty quickly how to handle new patients and got the situation under control.
Here, 1.2 million people in the whole region, it was easier. In places like Lombardy, with 11 million people and lots of infected ones, things just were different. But now they have the situation under control again also over there.
Older and sick people have paid the big price. Few others, unless they had really important co-morbidities.
He confirmed that the face protection is not necessary if you're not close together, and that carrying it continuously is going to cause problems to many people.
And...with the temperatures rising, they already see that the virus is slacking a lot.
In the end, he confirmed that it has been a very bad situation, but that the experience gained will most probably prevent such problems in the future.
Knowing the guy, I tend to believe him. He's really a very competent and careful person.
