Got it! Sweet! The NOS buttplate and screw were in a bag with the paperwork. The mystery of the screw for recoil plate (and why buttplate was off) is solved. When it came in on consignment last year, the gunsmith that checks consignment guns, completely disassembled the gun, and then wiped down the stock with dilute BLOicon/Mineral Spirits (after taking all the metal off) to clean it. The screw for the recoil plate was lost, so he got a machine screw that was slightly larger, but shorter, and pushed it into the wood, just to hold it in place in the rack. Unknown why he did not put the buttplate back on, though, as he moved to New Mexico after that.

I used my spare NOS recoil plate screw, and put buttplate back on. I also installed an M2 catch, Inland marked) so I can use 30s if I want. I put my MRT marked D tip sling on with an IS oiler, and put the NOS stock pouch on (with a double moleskin around the snap). Looks awesome. Pics in a couple days when I am not so busy.
